The Federal College of Education (Special), Oyo known at its inception as Federal Advanced Teachers College for special education was established on 5th October, 1977. The founding principal. Mr. C.C. Azodor, was replaced soon after the opening by an Acting Principal Mr. G.O. Talabi, who administered the college from 1978-1980. Later in 1980, Dr. O.I. Onwuegbu became the first Provost until 31st May, 1987.
